Thingley sidings

All returns to the CAD were routed by rail to Thingley Sidings, from where they were transferred by road the short distance to Mynte Wood in the grounds of Lord Methuen s Corsham Court for primary sorting. As the RAF activity at Ridge and Eastlays wound down after the war the need for Beanacre sidings diminished. The small amount of Army traffic to and from the sub-depots was generally routed by road from Thingley Junction, rendering the sidings increasingly redundant. All the railway facilities were taken out of use on 15 March, 1948. [Pg.222]

The Air Ministry loop and associated sidings at Thingley were taken out of use in February, 1955, although the sidings had fallen into disuse some time before. Tracks remained in situ until at least the summer of 1959. At Lacock the yard continued to see a certain amoimt of Admiralty activity until September, 1964, when they too were taken out of use, their function as the Admiralty railhead usurped by the recently decommissioned War Office sidings at Thingley Junction. [Pg.264]
