Thermotropic monomeric

Thermotropic PLC s evolved in academic research laboratories by incorporating known monomeric liquid crystals into polymer chains. This scheme of phase and relaxational transitions in this representative thermotropic LC copolyester provides an adequate description of the experimental evidence obtained. The validity of this scheme and the universal character of the transitions described for other copolyester where all monomeric units have the same lengths, can be shown for the whole family of thermotropic LC copolyesters by comparing the temperature behavior of CPE-1 with other polymers of this type. 

The detailed analysis of the structure, temperature behavior and phase as weUl as relaxational transitions of two representatives of thermotropic LC copolyesters with a statistical sequence of monomers in chains shows the strong dependence of their phase composition on the chemical stmcture of monomeric units. One of the most important factors appears to be the geometrical dimensions of the monomeric groups, from which the chain of copolymer is constructed jfrom, and the presence (or absence) of relatively large side substituents.
