Thermoplastic-based blend thermosetting plastics

Usage of phosphoms-based flame retardants for 1994 in the United States has been projected to be 150 million (168). The largest volume use maybe in plasticized vinyl. Other use areas for phosphoms flame retardants are flexible urethane foams, polyester resins and other thermoset resins, adhesives, textiles, polycarbonate—ABS blends, and some other thermoplastics. Development efforts are well advanced to find appHcations for phosphoms flame retardants, especially ammonium polyphosphate combinations, in polyolefins, and red phosphoms in nylons. Interest is strong in finding phosphoms-based alternatives to those halogen-containing systems which have encountered environmental opposition, especially in Europe. 

Foams are blends of thermoplasts, thermosets, or elastomers with gases. They are classified according to their hardness, their cellular structure, or the plastic on which they are based. 

Material preparation The plastic/metal/mixtru e may be cleaned, dried, colored, blended, heated, cooled, or in some way readied for use in the machine. This can be one resin, thermoplastic or thermoset, or combination of base resin and additives. Additives include colors, metal particles, foaming agents, antistatic agents, fillers, fibers, flow aids, stabilizers, antioxidants, mold-release agents, binders, flame retardants, etc.

Sections C and D list the abbreviations for polymers, based on their monomeric imits and characteristic groups, respectively. Section E contains abbreviations and acronyms for polymers obtained by chemical transformation of base polymers. Section F contains special abbreviations for blends, reinforced polymers, etc., and Section G the ISO and DIN codes for plastics. Section H lists the special abbreviations connected with the recycling of plastics. Recommended abbreviations and acronyms for elastomers and fibers are given in Sections I and J, respectively.
