With rising pressure the filament s temperature lowers and the resulting change in resistance detunes the bridge. This is shown by an indicating instrument that has an appropriate pressure scale. 

The disadvantage of this very simple measurement device is the limited measurement range at high pressure (because of the low filament temperature) and the slow response to a sudden pressure rise (slow cool-down ).
