The basic components of most refractories are oxides of various origins. Tables 9.1 and 9.2 list properties of some monolithic refractory materials. [Pg.398]

Electronic-Grade MMCs. Metal-matrix composites can be tailored to have optimal thermal and physical properties to meet requirements of electronic packaging systems, eg, cotes, substrates, carriers, and housings. A controUed thermal expansion space tmss, ie, one having a high precision dimensional tolerance in space environment, was developed from a carbon fiber (pitch-based)/Al composite. Continuous boron fiber-reinforced aluminum composites made by diffusion bonding have been used as heat sinks in chip carrier multilayer boards. [Pg.204]

The small (10 -lm) coating particles are typically aluminum oxide [1344-28-1/, Al O. These particles can have BET surface areas of 100 to 300 m /g. The thermal and physical properties of alumina crystalline phases vary according to the starting phase (aluminum hydroxide or hydrate) and thermal treatment (see ALUMINUM COMPOUNDS, ALUMINUM OXIDE). [Pg.485]

As in the case of nylons, the flexibility of PUs is increased as the number of methylene groups is increased, and the rigidity is related to the number of stiffening groups, such as phenylene groups in the chain. As the number of methylene units increases (Table 14.6), the Tm decreases. The Tm generally increases as the flexible units are replaced by nonflexible units, such as phen-ylenes and piperazines. Thermal and physical properties of aliphatic PUs are shown in Table 14.7. [Pg.173]

The reaction-gas stream is assumed to possess the same thermal and physical properties as air. This is an acceptable approximation because the only significant change made from standard air composition is that a fraction of the oxygen is lost in favour of nitrogen monoxide. These two minor components also have very similar molecular weights. [Pg.310]

Shih et al. [60] studied the modification of a novolac-type epoxy resin with PDMS to overcome brittleness and poor impact resistance. This kind of resin is typically cured via their epoxy functions. The authors also introduced isocyanate monofunctionalized PDMS. Hence, the common treatment with MDA (4,4 -methylene dianiline) not only cured the resin on the one hand, but also made it possible to form the branched copolymer. Mechanical and thermal analyses showed that an optimum in isocyanate-terminated PDMS content was required to reach good thermal and physical properties and low moisture absorption. [Pg.126]
