The Th-Be-N System

BeThN2. The compound BeThN2 has been prepared by Palisaar, Juza [1] by heating an equimolar mixture of Be3N2 and Th3N4 pressed into the form of a tablet and supported on Ta in 1 atm N2. It is heated for 7 to 45 min at 1400 to 1880 C. The gray-to-oUve colored product is hard and well crystallized. It has a pycnometric density D (25°C) = 9.1lg J g/cm. It decomposes in 1 atm N2 above 1880°C. It is stable in water and in air but soluble in dilute HCl. [Pg.45]

Crystals of BeThN2 have been reported to have the hexagonal unit cell with a = 1050.1 and c = 395.5 pm, theoretical density Dx = 9.464 g/cm and 8 formula units per cell [1]. [Pg.45]
