The reaction rate equation of Temkin-Pyzhev for ammonia synthesis

The first application of Temkin theory in history was on cataljdic reaction for ammonia synthesis on iron catalyst. The famous reation rate equation of Temkin-Pyzhev was obtained, corresponding to the overall reaction  [Pg.137]

The two-step mechanism without dissociation of dinitrogen can be written as  [Pg.137]

Thus the overall rate constants can be expressed in terms of validity for sites with the highest affinity. It is noted that the second step is not the elementary step, but it appears in the rate equation (2.151) only through its equilibrium constant K° and not through its rate constants k, fc°2- [Pg.138]

Elquation (2.151) was first obtained by Temkin and Pyzhev in 1940. Up to now, it is still used, in this form or in a very similar form, in the design of ammonia converters bruit all over the world. [Pg.138]

Dru ing 60 s of last centru y, Temkin et al. proposed that the reaction could be divided into two steps The first step is an activated adsorption of dinitrogen  [Pg.138]
