The Playing Field

It is unlikely to do so, ifthe industry stick to its stance (whether correct or not) that the present technology is the best, that if the playing field were level, it would be competitive and that past records show it to be at least as safe as competitive energy sources...

Answer The external pressure, most commonly the pressure of the atmosphere, affects the boiling temperature of liquids. So that boiling points of liquids are compared under the same conditions, the temperature at which a liquid boils under standard atmospheric pressure, 760 mmHg, is chosen as the benchmark. It levels the playing field when comparing boiling temperatures.
