The pattern of carbohydrates in seawater

With improvements in analytical techniques for the analysis of sugars in seawater, it is likely that our concepts of the distribution of individual compounds will change analogous to the developments in amino-acid research. 

The conditions employed for analysis exclude the possibility that such an isomerisation occurs during sample work up. However, little is known about the effects of filtration, fixation or storage on the absolute recoveries. 

Too few analyses of combined sugars after hydrolysis have been performed to allow any interpretation of their pattern in seawater.
