The northeastern Pacific abyssal plain

Deep seafloor communities are shaped by a number of key parameters that directly affect the nature and abundance of living organisms and their interactions with seafloor geochemistry. These parameters include (a) substratum type, (b) near-bottom hydrodynamic regime, (c) bottom-water oxygen concentration, (d) sinking particulate-organic-carbon (POC) flux, and (e) sediment redox conditions.
