With organophosphoric acids the position is further complicated by the fact that the electronegativity of the organic substituents may have a direct influence on the bond lengths of the resonance hybrid 

The POs ion has also been studied by several groups and the results have been summarised by Thomas [58]. This group has strong bands at 1140—1055 and 1010—970 cm for phosphate ions and between 1124—970 and 1000—962 cm for phosphonate ions. As is usual in the infra-red, the intensity of the higher frequency antisymmetric band is considerably greater than that of the symmetric mode.
