The Golden Gate Bridge

If the only way In or out of San Francisco and Sausalito is across the Golden Gate Bridge, which joins the two cities, then the number of vehicles in the two cities will remain constant if the number of vehicles per hour crossing the bridge in one direction equals the number of vehicles crossing in the opposite direction. Will the same vehicles always be in the same city ... 

Metals can be drawn into wires which can be used to construct cables like these on the Golden Gate bridge. 

Recently the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District selected an engineering firm to develop a plan to create barriers (physical or otherwise) to suicide attempts. With any luck, a well-considered and holistic solution to the human dimensions of the challenge will present itself, not one that creates unintended new problems born of the myopia of a purely technical approach. 

Maintenance. When the constmction phase ends and the owner takes over the project, the maintenance/ operation phase begins. The owner of the project usually takes over all responsibilities, but the contractor is usually bound by a warranty agreement. During the warranty period interaction between the owner and the contractor could be very frequent and intense. Beyond the warranty period, the physical structures require constant maintenance. A well-known example is the constant painting of the cables of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. 

I Although 83,000 tons of steel were needed for the Golden Gate Bridge (completed in 1937), only half that amount would be needed in the 2010 s, because of new steels and technologies. 

The key reaction catalyzed by the rock is called serpentinization, because it makes serpentinite. It s rare but can be found in the shadow of the Golden Gate Bridge and on a particular Washington beach (if this amateur geologist guessed right). Serpentinite is made when the mass of the deep ocean presses hot water into olivine.
