The functions of an occupational health department

These fall into clinical and advisory categories. 

Pre-employment and other medical examinations, e.g. employees returning from sickness or those changing jobs. 

Examination of people exposed to specific occupational hazards. Treatment of condifions on behalf of the hospital or general practitioner. This may include physiotherapy or rehabilitation for which purposes a physiofherapisf may be employed. 

Emergency freafmenf of illness or injury occurring at work. Immunological services, e.g. vaccination of overseas travellers, tetanus prevention, influenza prevenfion. Hospital workers require protection against hepatitis and tuberculosis. 

2 Advice on problems of medical legislation and codes of practice.
