Various criteria have been developed and discussed to predict the possibility of a thermal instability in gas-solid reactions [23, 40, 41], assuming pseudosteady state regarding the heat transfer within the solid and negligible heat capacity of the solid. Wen and Wang [39] discussed the effect of various factors on the thermal instability and have extended their analysis to study the unsteady state heat transfer within the particle when the heat capacity of the solid is not negligible compared to the heat of reaction.
