The discontinuous gravimetric procedure

Although the problems associated with the selection of the dose size are avoided, other decisions must be made which affect the accuracy of gravimetric measurements. These are considered in more detail in Sections 3.4.4 and 3.4.6. 

The steps normally involved in this procedure are as follows  

Adsorbent evacuated in situ under controlled conditions and mass loss recorded. 

Non-adsorbable gas introduced at room temperature up to c. atmospheric pressure and apparent mass change recorded (to obtain buoyancy correction). 

Balance case evacuated and adsorbent brought to required temperature.
