Corrosion experts have defined four typical atmospheres (Table C.3.1). 

It also takes into account the economic activity of the site (agriculture, industry) and allows classifying the atmospheres as to their aggressiveness towards metals. 

Certain criteria are, however, difficult to quantify accurately, and the ranges are usually very wide.
