Thallium complexes bipyridyl

Sutton (666) and Kul ba (458-460) have prepared a number of bipyridyl and phenanthroline complexes of various thallium(III) salts those with nitrate and perchlorate are generally bis-chelate compounds, whereas the halides give compounds of stoichiometry TIX3L. Stability constants have been reported for some of the complexes (457). Other mixed ligand species containing ethylenediamine (461) and oxalate (456) and salts containing both bipyridyl and phenanthroline coordinated to the same thallium(III) ion (456) are also claimed. 

Farver and Nord (84) have found that Tl(II)-2,2 -bripyridyl is formed at a dropping mercury electrode when thallium(III)-2,2 -bipyridyl complexes in 0.1 M KNO3 solution are reduced at low thallium concentrations (<1 mM) and pH >5. They suggested that Tl(II) complexes with other chelating agents (N and O donors) could probably also be observed polarographically.

Bromo(bispentafiuorophenyl)thallium reacts with the sodium or thallium(i) salts of the j8-diketones, (MeCO)gCH2, CFa-CO-CHa-COMe, (CF, CO)3-CH2,PhCOCHj-COMe,and (PhCO)sCH, to form four-co-ordinate dionato complexes, e.g. (C,F5)sTl[(MeCO),CH], and with the sodium salt of 8-hydroxyquinoline to form a dinuclear complex with bridging ligands. Reaction of these with triphenylphosphine oxide and triphenylarsine oxide, and with 2,2 -bipyridyl and phenanthrene, yields a number of five- and six-co-ordinate complexes. ...
