Bubbling hydrogen chloride gas through a benzene solution of the dione 41a caused ring opening with release of N2 and formation of A -benzyl-3-chloro-2-oxopropanamide 201 (Equation 71) 1995RJ01005 . 

The bridged tetrahydro-l,2,3-triazinone 202a gave a 75% yield of the octahydroquinolinone 203 upon exposure to atmospheric moisture for 20 days and chromatography on silica gel (Equation 72) 1988JOC391 .
