Tetanus neurotoxin has been extensively analyzed in the past (Robinson and Hash, 1982) for its molecular size using analytical ultracentrifugation, and it was reported that purified tetanus neurotoxin exists as a monomer (125-145 kDa), although aggregation was observed at certain concentrations. Moreover, to avoid aggregation , Robinson and coworkers (Robinson and Hash, 1982) used their toxin preparations immediately after purification on a preparative scale electrophoresis which was carried out in 4 M urea. Urea is likely to facilitate disaggregatation of tetanus neurotoxin into the monomeric form.
