Terpenoids monoterpene

The quantitative composition of the essential oils from six Teucrium species collected from Iberian peninsula have been studied and sixty two constituents have been identified. Five populations of T. scorodonia subsp. scorodonia, three populations of T. scorodonia subsp. baeticum, two samples of T. oxylepis subsp. marianum and several samples of T. asiaticum, T. salviastrum and T. oxylepis subsp. oxylepis were studied and no significant differences were found in the terpenoid (monoterpenes and diterpenes) patterns. The GC columns were packed with 5 % silicon OVl and 10 % carbowax 20M [91]. [Pg.641]

Many monoterpenes are biologically active (Fig. 19.15) (Herout, 1970 Seigler, 1983) and representatives of this group of compounds are toxic to a large number of organisms. For example, thujaplicinol (46) (Fig. 19.1) is a useful antibacterial adenyltransferase inhibitor (Croteau and Johnson, 1985). Among the biologically active terpenoids, monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes predominate. [Pg.339]

The characteristic odour of raw, wet land is caused by the presence of two terpenoids, monoterpenic alcohol (-)-2-methylisobomeol (8-22) and the sesquiterpenoid (-)-geosmin (8-23) produced by streptomycetes, myxobacteria and cyanobacteria. Both compounds cause an unpleasant odour in drinking water and some foods, such as canned mushrooms, wheat, coffee and meat of freshwater fish... [Pg.529]
