Terbium compounds magnetization

In this chapter, we have reviewed the family of LnPc2 compounds with an emphasis on its terbium analogue, which covers their synthetic approaches, bulk magnetism, magnetism on different substrates and the fabrication towards different molecular schemes of spintronic devices. 

Study of the intensity and splitting pattern of certain transitions in the fluorescence spectra of compounds of Eu + and Tb in particular can give a good deal of information about the environment of the lanthanide ion. The mles are summarized in Tables 5.4 and 5.5 for both europium and terbium. Owing to the weakness of the electric dipole transitions, the magnetic dipole transitions are of comparable intensity. The lutetium hahdes (except the fluoride), together with the nitrates, perchlorates, and acetates, are soluble in water. The hydroxide oxide, carbonate, oxalate, and phosphate compotmds are insoluble. Lutetium compounds are all colorless in the solid state and in solution. Due to its closed electronic configuration (4f " ), lutetium has no absorption bands and does not emit radiation. Neutron diffraction measurements performed on TbRu2Ge2 indicate that the magnetic structure of the compound is sine modulated below 32 K (the Neel point). It becomes square modulated at 4.2 K with the terbium magnetic moment amounting to 9.06 /Hg and the propagation vector k = (0.2331, 0, 0). The magnetic moment is directed along the c-axis (Yakinthos 1986, Szytula et al. 1987).
