Tellurium Disulfonates

Only two diaryl tellurium disulfonates have been reported. 

Diphenyl tellurium bis[4-methylbenzenesulfonate] was obtained via three different routes in approximately 75% yield . 

4-Methylphenyl phenyl tellurium bis[methanesulfonate] was isolated when the diaryl tellurium dibromide and silver methanesulfonate were reacted in dry benzene. After filtration, the reaction mixture was frozen and the frozen solvent removed in a vacuum.  

When this reaction was carried out in methanol, when the diaryl tellurium oxide was combined with methanesulfonic acid, or when the disulfonate was heated at 140 , bis[4-methylphenyl phenyl methanesulfonate tellurium] oxide was obtained f 

The reported preparation of 4-methylphenyl phenyl tellurium bis[d-bromocamphorsulfo-nate] from the diaryl tellurium dibromide and the silver sulfonate in acetone was found to be irreproducible. Only non-crystalline, non-uniform mixtures were obtained

Diaryl tellurium hydroxide bromocamphorsulfonates were prepared by hydrolysis of the diaryl tellurium disulfonates with cold water2,3. 

Reaction of a diaryl tellurium dibromide with silver methanesulfonate in methanol, reaction of a diaryl tellurium oxide with methanesulfonic acid, or heating of a diaryl tellurium disulfonate at 140° gave bis[methylphenyl phenyl methanesulfonato tellurium] oxide2. 

Sulfonic acids3 and their anhydrides4 react with diorgano tellurium oxides to produce diorgano tellurium disulfonates (p. 620).
