Narrow trenches call for pipe to be assembled prior to installation in the trench. Due to this fact and the larger size of pipe normally installed in this manner, equipment is used to lower the pipe into the trench. Circumstances of a specific job can dictate the type of equipment that will be used. Backhoes and cranes are both used to lower assembled pipe into trenches. Telescoping lifting rigs are also used to lower pipe into trenches.
