SET involves the reaction of organic compounds with solutions of metallic sodium in anhydrous liquid ammonia. When sodium is dissolved in liquid ammonia, it forms sodium cations. The electrons released in the process are solvated by ammonia and are highly mobile in the solution. Teledyne-Commodore has proposed using SET for the treatment of assembled chemical weapons and also as a treatment technology for RRS nentralents in response to Stone Webster s Commerce Business Daily announcement. [Pg.47]
