Some 40% of teenage cyclist accidents occur at T-junctions. [Pg.94]

According to official figures, 10 000 teenage cyclists were injured in cycling accidents in 1988. A hospital study by TRL suggests the actual rate could be three times as high. [Pg.94]

Some 35% of teenage cyclists appear to disregard the rules of the road for cyclists given in The Highway Code, most noticeably in denser traffic and when wishing to proceed across the mouth of the minor road at T-junctions. Only 2% who fail to comply with The Highway Code advice put themselves at real risk. [Pg.94]

Attention is greatest among teenage cyclists when turning from a minor road into a major road, but only half could be said to be paying full attention to the road. [Pg.94]
