Techniques that use the Laplace equation to measure surface energy

1 Techniques that use the Laplace equation to measure surface energy [Pg.151]

In Chapter 2 the capillary-rise technique for measuring yuv was described. A number of other techniques, which are based on the Laplace [Pg.151]

If a capillary tube is inserted to a depth h below the surface of a liquid the hydrostatic pressure will be pgh. If an inert gas is blown through the tube the pressure in the resultant bubble will be given from Equation (6.13) as [Pg.152]

The maximum pressure will obtain for the minimum value of r, which corresponds to the point when the bubble is hemispheric in shape and r will be the radius of the tube. Measurement of the maximum value of P [Pg.152]
