T-alkanes

T. Urbanski and Fal cki [60] reported a spontaneous explosion when a solution of N2O4 in /t-alkanes was kept for a few days at room temperature. This was most likely a consequence of the formation of branched reaction chains through free radicals. [Pg.379]

An important property of supercritical fluids and one that is related to their high densities (0.2 to 0.5 g/cm ) is their ability to dissolve large nonvolatile molecules. For example, supercritical carbon dioxide readily dissolves /t-alkanes containing 5 to 22 carbon atoms, di-n-alkylphthalates in which the alkyl groups contain 4 to 16 carbon atoms, and various polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons consisting of several rings. ... [Pg.997]

The main purpose of the present work is twofold (i) to report an extensive set of singlecomponent adsorption isotherm data of the more common natural gas components on activated carbon, and (ii) to present a means of extrapolating the measured data to higher alkanes in order to be able to span the whole composition of a typical natural gas. There is expen mental evidence that for the /t-alkanes series this can be done using the Adsorption Potential theory, as demonstrated recently by Holland et al. on Westvaco BAX-1100 carbon, and assumed previously by us. - ... [Pg.479]

Anodic oxidation of /t-alkanes in acetonitrile results in mixtures of A -s-alkylacetamides but skeletal rearrangement of the intermediate s-catbenium ions is not observed.Aromatic compounds can luidergo direct acetamidation in the ring. Thus, acetophenone, which normally undergoes electrophilic aromatic substitution at the meta position, affords the o and p-acetamides (Scheme 44). Anthracene is cleanly converted into the acetamide (84) when the reaction is performed in the presence of TPAA as water scavenger (equation 41). ... [Pg.282]

A 1.2.3 Over a limited range and with some loss in accuracy. Linear Retention Indices can be calculated by extrapolation rather than interpolation. In such cases, TV and TV + 1 would be defined as the carbon numbers of consecutive /t-alkanes, both eluting immediately after (or before) compound A. The equation otherwise remains unchanged. [Pg.795]

Sulphinate Esters.—A wide variety of synthetic routes to sulphinate esters is represented in the recent literature. A one-step synthesis of alkyl t-alkane-sulphinates from a Grignard reagent and a sulphite has been explored. Among the reports of sulphinate syntheses from sulphinyl halides are three accounts of studies with unusual interest, viz. CF,SOF -> CF3S(0)0R, iV-t-butylsulphinyl-oxycarbamates from Bu SOCl and H0NR C(0)0R, and an asymmetric synthesis involving a sulphinyl chloride, an achiral alcohol, and an optically active tertiary amine. In the best experiment an optical purity of 45% was achieved in the asymmetric synthesis. ... [Pg.62]
