Synthetic Paper Polyblends

Traditionally, paper is prepared by blending together cellulose fibers, fillers, and binders. (As such, paper is a composite in its own right, but outside of the scope of this monograph.) Although cheap and useful, cellulose fiber-based papers have several problems, especially sensitivity to water and relative weakness even when dry. In addition, as the level of the world s technological development increases, more and more paper is demanded, at the expense of limited forest resources. [Pg.278]

To overcome some of those difficulties, synthetic paper materials have been developed. Two approaches are as follows (International Conference on Plastics and Paper, 1973). [Pg.278]
