Chromatography is seldom understood to be a critical technology in drug discovery. Synthetic organic chemists and medicinal chemists are interested in the chemical product (a series of compounds), not the procedures used to obtain pure representations of the product. Nevertheless, most, if not all, synthetic products require analysis and purification.
