Synthesis of Azulenes. Reaction of tropylium cations with allenylsilanes produces substituted azulenes. Typically, commercially available tropylium tetrafluoroborate (2 equiv) is ert5)loyed. The second equivalent dehydrogenates the dihydroazu-lene intermediate to produce the aromatic product.
