Synthesis and Properties of ONPs

The most straightforward approach to synthesizing ONPs is to start from molecules that already have a desired group or property. Another possibility is to begin with 

Good reasons to choose ONPs for biomedical applications are that organic materials are generally less toxic than metallic materials and, if the proper molecules are chosen for their synthesis, they are less likely to be recognized by the immune system. For example, ONPs do not catalyze oxidative stress reactions, whereas several MNPs do. In this sense, we should recall that many MNPs are functionalized with organic molecules to avoid or diminish toxicity. 

Some ONPs are regular and polished but, usually, they have more irregular sizes and shapes, as well as broader size distributions, and in general their average sizes
