Symptomatic Cough Suppressants from the Literature

Several potential antitussives for chronic cough have been reported in the medical literature as case reports or open uncontrolled smdies (Table 3). 

Baclofen used as an antispasticity agent and also an agonist of the GABAb receptor was reported to have a small beneficial effect in two patients with chronic cough (Dicpinigaitis et al. 1998) the potential use of this compound is further supported by its ability to inhibit capsaicin-induced cough in normal subjects (Dicpinigaitis et al. 1998).
