Sympathetic nervous system lipolysis

The major stimuli to lipolysis are insulin deficiency and catecholamines. Lipolysis is also stimulated by the sympathetic nervous system through both... [Pg.4]

A hormone secreted by the adrenal medulla. It stimulates the sympathetic nervous system causing bronchodilatation, vasoconstriction and increased heart rate, which together raise the blood pressure. Adrenaline also increases glycogenolysis and lipolysis and this can increase blood levels of glucose and fatty acids. [Pg.9]

The metabolic effect of the drug on muscle metabolism was interpreted as being due to the blockade of beta-1-receptors in adipose tissue, resulting in diminished availability of fatty acids and reduced rate of oxidation in muscles. It is known that during stress, such as caused by surgical operations, there is normally increased sympathetic nervous system activity and stimulation of lipolysis. [Pg.684]
