Switchers engineering interest

I was looking for. I wanted to work with computers. I wanted to... learn how to build them and how they worked (USF Hispanic female switcher). Based on her experiences and interests in high school, USF Engineering seemed like a good fit however, pre-requisites were the problem, especially mathematics courses ... 

In addition to the push factors that compel students to reconsider their commitment to engineering, there are pull factors drawing students into other majors. Faculty, administrators, and staff understand that not all students maintain interest in engineering. For some, their natural interests were different. An administrator gives an example of a switcher who is now becoming an actor and he was in my class and we talked and it just turned out that this is not where he wanted to be but he wasn t going to tell anybody because his parents would be disappointed (USF administrator). 

Once you make that initial contact with the student and you want them to be a part of your engineering program, really following up on what you say that you are going to do. Not just kind of sending them this information, we re interested in you, but once we kind of got you here, we don t really too much want that relation, because we got you to come here.
