SWELLING (DIMENSIONAL INSTABILITY), PRESSURE DEVELOPMENT, AND BUCKLING 

L = initial dimension (tangential direction or radial direction) at certain moisture content, 

C = coefficient of dimensional change in tangential (Cj) or radial (Cr) direction. 

Coefficient C numerically is a percent-dimensional change (AL/L) at 1% change in moistnre content in the material. Several examples of the values of these two coefficients are given in Table 12.3.
