Surgeon General’s Conference

The Surgeon General s Conference on Children s Mental Health was held September 18-19, 2000 (see www.surgeongeneral.gov/cmh/default.htm for a report on this meeting). This meeting was focused more broadly on the mental health of children and the delivery of mental health services, but some attention was paid specifically to the preschool population.

The chapter in the 1972 Surgeon General s report (4003) dealing with the harmful components of tobacco smoke noted that the reports describing the presence of various NNAs in cigarette smoke were published after the June 1970 conference on which the chapter was based.
