Surface tension and Hamaker constant

Equations 6.12 and 6.13 can be used in many ways, e.g. for estimating Hamaker constants from surface tension data and vice versa. Once reliable values of surface tensions and Hamaker constants are available from other techniques or measurements, these equations can be used to estimate the interparticle distance. Such calculations yield for many compounds like hydrocarbons, water and polystyrene values around 0.2-0.3 nm, which are physically reasonable.
