Surface-templating mechanism

This work details the atomic force microscopy of three faces of the microporous material SSZ-42. Interesting surface features have been observed on each face that are distinct and related to the structure of SSZ-42. These have been used to determine the crystal growth mechanism of SSZ-42. This study supports a layer growth mechanism whereby growth of crystals occurs at terrace sites and edges from nutrient in the solution and elucidate the templating mechanism. 

In this technique, silica or polystyrene nanoparticles with dimensions between 200 mn and 1 mm are deposited onto electrode surfaces by sedimentation or vertical lifting [76-80]. The colloidal particles form a crystalline lattice on the surface working electrodes which can act to direct the deposition of CP.
