Sunlight, the First Light Source

1 The Importance of Sunlight in Industry. Sunlight is hardly ever used nowadays for quantitative laboratory photochemical research, but it remains the most important light source for many indirect industrial applications which involve the light-induced degradation of chemicals. [Pg.216]

There are some standard tests for the assessment of the photostability of dyes and pigments, for example, which must be realistic with respect to the actual use of such chemicals. The complex conditions of exposure to sunlight, to air and to moisture are difficult to reproduce in the laboratory, and for this reason field tests are widely used. [Pg.216]

There is yet another very important use of sunlight, i.e. its conversion into electricity or hydrogen. In this case also it is obvious that for practical applications sunlight is the only acceptable light source. [Pg.217]
