Summary of Design Steps

The following steps are used in designing a shell and tube heat exchanger  [Pg.145]

The required heat duty Q q is usually fixed by the required service and the designed heat exchanger has to meet or exceed this requirement. [Pg.145]

Select the streams that should be placed on the tube side and shell side. [Pg.145]

Calculate the heat transfer area required using a reasonable guess for the overall heat transfer coefficient. [Pg.145]

Select suitable tube specifications (OD/ID/Ptand length). [Pg.145]
