Therefore, one may safely draw an inference that these sulphonamide structural analogues competitively prevent the carbonic acid from getting bound at this specific site. Consequently, such an action shall obviously inhibit the prvailing action of the enzyme CA, thereby giving rise to an apparent acid-base imbalance that would ultimately cause diuresis. 

Sulphonamides are structural analogues of PABA. They competitively inhibit the incorporation of PABA into dihydropteroic acid and there is some evidence for their incorporation into false folate analogues which inhibit subsequent metabolism. The presence of excess PABA will reverse the inhibitory action of sulphonamides, as will thymine, adenine, guanine and methionine. However, these nutrients are not normally available at the site of infections for which the sulphonamides are used. 

Dissimilarity with Benzoylation. It has been observed that there is one vital difference between the benzoyl and the sulphonyl derivatives of amines. Importantly, when the primary- and secondary-samnes are made to react with Benzoyl Chloride, it gives rise to mono-and di-substituted structural analogues of benzamide and when subjected to treatment with Benzenesulphonyl Chloride, 3neld similar derivatives of benzene sulphonamide. 

Sulphinyl-amines and -amides.—Structure. JT-Ray crystallographic analyses - and infrared, nitrogen-15 n.m.r., and dipole-moment measurements of several -sulphinylanilines and JV-sulphinyl-sulphonamides have been performed. These spectral analyses have revealed that the compounds (1) and (2 Ar = Ph) have syn-coplanar configurations around the N=S linkage this is in accordance with the previous observations except in the case of the mesityl analogue (2 Ar = 2,4,6-Me3C H2), in which the mesityl ring is perpendicular to the N=S=0 plane.
