While it is indubitable that the choice of materials for design is facilitated by the use of a single indicator, the ideal is to have a set of environmental indicators that are as representative and complete as possible (including LCA indicators, but also other types of indicators, be they semi-quantitative or even quahtarive) so that we can, on a case-by-case basis, employ those indicators which are most relevant for the particular objective (technical specifications) and the FU under consideration. 

For illustrative purposes. Table 7.5 shows an example of a set of indicators that can be used for the enviromnental choice of a material to make a 330 cm bottle. The color code white/light gray/dark gray makes for better legibility of these data.
