Submarine Advanced Reactor SAR

The design study of the Submarine Advanced Reactor has been completed, and a topical report has been issued.  [Pg.51]

Tests on the mechanical properties and irradiation stability of Caril-loy T-1 steel are continuing. This alloy was selected as the most promising material for the SAR pressure vessel. [Pg.51]

Since one of the basic requirements of the SAR design was a high degree of reliability, a detailed study of the effects of possible malfvinctions, operator errors, and sabotage actions on the reactor plant has been initiated. This study is expected to provide a clearer picture of the inherent safety of the design. [Pg.51]

One of the contributing factors to a thermal.reactor temperature coefficient is that due to different temperature dependence of fission and nonfission cross sections. It is the purpose of this work to examine this coefficient for the BER,.both initially and after equilibrium plutonium-239 has been attained. While the numerical results are valid only for BER, the qualitative aspects of the problem are applicable to similar reactors. [Pg.52]

The BER consists of a mixture of approximately 34% enriched plates containing no U , and 66% natural uranium plates. Other materials have the volume ratios shown in Table I. The quantity, [Pg.52]
