Structures of Organolithium Compounds

The crystal structures of many organolithium compounds have been determined.44 Phenyllithium has been crystallized as an ether solvate. The structure is tetrameric with lithium and carbon atoms at alternating corners of a highly distorted cube. The lithium atoms form a tetrahedron and the carbons are associated with the faces of the tetrahedron. Each carbon is 2.33 A from the three neighboring lithium atoms and an ether molecule is coordinated to each lithium atom. Figures 7.2a and b show, respectively, the Li-C cluster and the complete array of atoms, except for hydrogen 45 Section 6.2 of Part A provides additional information on the structure of organolithium compounds. [Pg.626]

It has been found that the Li quadrupole parameters x( Li) and /]( Li) are sensitive probes of solid state structures of organolithium compounds, for example with respect to aggregate size, solvation, ion pair structure and the X-Li-X structural angle. These results will be discussed in the following sections. [Pg.151]

Many examples of the interaction between lithium and diverse it systems are documented in the literature. In the first review in this field Stucky (/) described the structure and bonding in it complexes of N-chelated lithium units. More recently, the synthesis and structure of organolithium compounds, including those containing unsaturated organic systems, have been reviewed by Wardell (2). A collection of X-ray crystal structure data of... [Pg.217]

Solution structures of organolithium compounds are now easily recognized by the multiplicity of the 13C NMR of lithium bound carbon due to one bond 13C—7Li or 13C—6Li scalar coupling as well as by the magnitude of the coupling constants3. Table 1 lists the 13C NMR multiplets due to one, two and three 6Li s or 7Li s equally one bond coupled to the same 13C as in, respectively, monomers, dimers and tetramers. [Pg.12]

The structures of organolithium compounds have been extensively studied, and there are a number of reviews available. " A recent review of the structures of organoaUcali metal compounds of the heavier group 1 metals has also been made available. Specific details of the structures formed by various types of organoaUcali metal compounds both in... [Pg.86]
