Support for this biogenetic picture has also come from the isolation of compounds representing the various stages and structural variations among quassinoids. 

It has already been noted that there is a considerable structural variation among isoflavonoids and at least three other structural types are represented in the genus Cicer. Note that the numbering systems for these variants differ from each other. Isoflav-3-enes conform to the usual flavonoids numbering system but coumestanes and arylbenzofurans are different. 

Tetrodotoxin derivatives have been found in many different types of organisms. The structural variation among them gives very important clues about the biosynthetic origin of the important toxin. However, separation of the closely related toxins is not so trivial. Silica-based columns used by most researchers give poor yields. We found that the carboxylic acid form of HEMA gives an excellent separation and a relatively high yield (see Fig. 3). 

The atomic arrangement of apatite sensu stricto is formed of three cation polyhedra, and the structural variations among the three anion end-members is perhaps best understood by examining variations that occur in the three polyhedra concomitant with substitution of the three column anions. The three polyhedra as they occur in fluorapatite, hydroxylapatite, and chlorapatite are compared and superimposed below. 

Structural variation among the clinically useful sulfonamides is restricted primarily to installation of various heterocyclic aromatic substituents on the sulfonamide nitrogen. 

The structure variation among the heptanes shows that the number of 3 subgraphs ranges from four to six while the numerical range of the Xp values is less than 1. Neither the number of 3 subgraphs nor the Xp values appear to be related to what is commonly called branching. Thus, the last four molecules are multiply branched, yet the number...
