Structurally related analogues

Although DIOS-MS is mainly a tool for qualitative analysis, many examples have shown that quantitative analysis is possible when internal standards are used. These may either be isotope-labelled - mostly deuterated - compounds or structurally related analogues. For example, subsequent to electrospray deposition, amino acids such as phenylalanine and tyrosine have been successfully quantified by means of DIOS-MS using their deuterated analogues as internal standards. 

The synthesis of the l-(D-apio-D-furanosyl)-1,2,3-triazoles 196, structurally related analogues of the antibiotic ribavarin A 176, was achieved through an intermolecular 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of the azide 193 with the 2-oxoalkylide-netriphenylphosphorane (41) (Scheme 9.41). 

Information bearing on the toxicokinetics and toxicodynamics of the chemical under consideration, as well as structurally related analogues or chemicals that act by a similar mechanism of action, will be used to derive an appropriate interspecies uncertainty factor that may range from 10 to 3 or 1. Using the same modeling program, MIP specific for ibuprofen in aqueous media was developed.88 Recoveries were typically >80% and good selectivity for ibuprofen over structurally related analogues was shown. Following the introduction of procaine, hundreds of structurally related analogues were prepared and their local anesthetic properties examined.
