Structural Studies on Oligonucleotides

A number of studies have reported binding to oligonucleotide fragments and tRNA. The incubation of cisplatin with the helical dodecanucleotide depicted below showed binding to N7 positions at the inner guanine residues [105]  

It is of interest here to mention the structural work done on tRNA because there is a good consistency in general results as the polymer is built up. The metal binding of tRNA has been summarized [106, 107]. A number of studies have reported on Pt—tRNA binding and although various differences are observed, depending on the incubation time and medium used, the relevant data are instructive and are presented in Table 4.III, along with the studies on a related Ru complex [108—110].
