G,25 Charles S. Barrett and T. B. Massalski. Structure of Metals, 3rd ed. (New York McGraw-Hill, 1966). A classic book on the crystallographic aspects of physical metallurgy. Really two books in one, the first part dealing with the theory and methods of diffraction of x-rays, electrons, and neutrons the second part with the structure of metals in the wider sense of the word. Very lucid account of the stereographic projection. Stress measurement, phase transformations, preferred orientation. 

Stress corrosion cracking is a complicated subject. Unless that is emphasized at the beginning, then the fine details of phenomenological and mechanistic factors will not be appreciated. In order to gain some understanding of stress corrosion cracking, it is necessary to realize that three different disciplines are at work in any stress corrosion situation. These are physical metallurgy, electrochemistry and fracture mechanics.
