Strengthen the Fit

In order to show a strong fit, a research project should be consistent with the objectives of the whole organization. That is, the project offers sustainable development or concentrates on selected core businesses. 

In addition to the compliance with overall goals, the relative position of the project within the portfolio of one s organization affects its fit. Based on the current portfolio status, management decides whether or not a particular project supplements the current spectrum of projects and thereby satisfies the desired portfolio targets. 

Finally, projects that leverage or supplement know-how that is already available within the organization have a better fit. This reflects the fact that projects tend to be more successful if they are not entirely new to the organization.
