Strength number test

Kraf tzehl(KZ) Probe(Strength Number Test) is a German modification of Trauzl Test. Ref PATR 2510 (PB 161270X1958), p Get 102... [Pg.715]

In addition to the direct measurements of fiber-matrix interface properties discussed in Section 3.2, a number of testing techniques have been devised to assess the fiber-matrix interface bond quality by inference from the gross mechanical properties such as interlaminar shear strength (ILSS), translaminar or in-plane shear strength, and transverse tensile strength. These testing techniques invariably employ... [Pg.61]

Kraftzahl(KZ or Strength Number). It has been recognized for some time that enlargements in the lead block cavity, obtained in the Trauzl test (See Vol 1, pp XXV-XXVI), are not exactly proportional to the power of... [Pg.555]

A number of terms and concepts are important toward understanding the nature and scope of strength capacity testing. Several of these terms are defined below however, there are no universally accepted definitions for these terms. [Pg.1249]

Most polysaccharides are not very surface active. For instance, starch and dextrane display very weak surface activities in various tests (for instance, in the classical Gold number tests). Xanthane has been shown to create depletion flocculation in several types of experiment, as shown by an unpredicted fast creaming. However, other polysaccharides, for instance, gum arabic and modified cellulose, do display surface activity. The latter is defined here as the ability to adsorb to surfaces. The ability to reduce the interfacial tension is associated with the ability to adsorb, as the surface tension represents the strength of the molecule-surface interactions. However, for large molecules, where the mixing entropy is only a minor contribution to the free energy, adsorption can also be achieved also when the adsorption energy is small. The surface activity of gum arabic is explained by the proteinaceous components associated with the molecule (22). When these parts are eliminated, the surface activity is lost. With modified cellulose, the surface activity is more related to... [Pg.46]

In Figure 8 the results of the residual strength of tests with alumina specimens are illustrated. These experiments have shown that the static-fretting stressed specimens have -independent of the number of fretting cycles - virtually the same inert strength as non-firetted specimens. [Pg.106]

Specifications, Standards, Quality Control, and Health and Safety Factors. Formerly, there was an Insulation Board Institute representing the insulation board industry, but the decline in the market and number of producers has led to its demise. Currently (ca 1997), the industry is represented by the American Hardboard Association (AHA). Specifications and standards are found in American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standard for CellulosicFiberboard (7). The standard includes descriptions of the various types and classes of ftberboard, as well as requirements for physical and dimensional stabiUty properties. QuaUty control tests are limited to a few basic strength and stabiUty tests, including bending strength, bond strength, and moisture resistance. [Pg.386]

Tables 4—6 Ust ASTM methods used for the characterization of PB and PMP. A number of specialized methods were developed for testing particular articles manufactured from polyolefins several of these determine the performance of PB and PMP film, including the measurement of the film s dart impact strength and tear strength. Dart impact strength is measured by dropping a heavy dart with a round tip on a stretched film. Tear resistance, which reflects the film s resistance to tear propagation, is measured with the Ehnendorf tear tester. Two values for the tear strength are usually reported, one in the machine dkection of the film and the other in the transverse dkection. Pipes manufactured from PB are tested by pressurizing them internally with water the time-to-burst failure is determined at various temperatures (46). The standard test method for haze and luminous transmittance (ASTM D1003) is used for the measurement of PMP optical characteristics.
